ANDREW T. RAMER Andrew Ramer is co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Marqera, a globally-focused intellectual property trading company with offices in the U.S. and abroad delivering a range of products and services addressing the IP needs of various entities, including patent and brand transactions, advisory services, and the providing of transaction and debt capital to holders of different forms of intellectual property under various financial structures. Over the past several years, Andrew developed a worldwide reputation in the intellectual property marketplace, having led the initiative which delivered the world’s first series of global, live multi-lot intellectual property auctions, as well as having completed over 300 IP transactions for a cumulative value exceeding $150M. During this period Andrew worked with the majority of the largest and most active acquirers of intellectual property. He has represented and advised hundreds of companies, leading venture capital firms, noted inventors, academic and research institutions and government entities. Andrew has been a frequent speaker and lecturer in the U.S., Europe, and Asia at leading industry conferences, as well as in corporate and academic forums. Andrew has given countless interviews and been quoted on various IP issues by some of the leading international media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, Red Herring, Business Week, Barron's, Bloomberg, Reuters, and The New York Times, among others. In the years 2009-2010, Andrew was selected as one of the ‘World’s 250 Leading IP Strategists’ by IAM Magazine. Prior to founding Marqera, Andrew was the President of Ocean Tomo Auctions, LLC, the Managing Director of the Ocean Tomo Transactions business, and an equity partner of the firm. From its conception in 2005 through February of 2009, Andrew led and recruited the team which built and delivered Ocean Tomo’s first eight live multi-lot intellectual property auctions, an auction business which received substantial international press and recognition, holding events in the U.S. and Europe to consummate hundreds of IP transactions for global sellers and buyers. On the private transaction side, Andrew advised and represented companies on the sale of larger and more robust patent portfolios in transactions which often required knowledge of issues and concerns specific to public companies, enhanced IP diligence, and the flexibility and creativity to devise new, atypical deal structures. Prior to joining Ocean Tomo, Andrew spent five years with Motorola Ventures, the venture capital arm of Motorola. During his tenure, Andrew reviewed and completed investments in early stage technology companies, several of which were later acquired, in the areas of communications, semiconductors, multimedia, portable power, medical monitoring systems, interactive television, wireless services, and many others. Andrew also spearheaded Motorola's divestiture initiative for its private holdings, including a complete, internally run auction process. Andrew's experience also includes legal work with the law firm of Roche, Carens and DeGiacomo, an apprenticeship for noted creditor's rights attorney Jordan Shapiro, and a judicial clerkship in the Massachusetts Superior Court system. Andrew has co-authored and contributed to publications for the
Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education and the Massachusetts Practice Series on Collections Law. He has worked as a public securities broker for Dean Witter Reynolds, where he held his Series 7 and 63 licenses, and sold real estate including residential and commercial transactions. Andrew holds a BSc. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, a law degree from the New England School of Law where he graduated Cum Laude, and is admitted to the bar in Massachusetts.
