This week's Corporate L&D Institute Speaker Spotlight features Sydney Savion, Head of Education Strategy at Dell-EMC Education Services, who will be leading a session on “Reimagining Innovation in Learning & Development”.
We had the chance to catch up with Sydney this week to ask her a few questions about her role, her career and her advice for aspiring HR Leaders. This is what she shared with us:
What is the biggest obstacle you’ve faced along your career path?
In corporate America, it’s been finding a suitable mentor to shepherd me towards my North Star career goal. In the military, mentors were abound given it’s an incubator of leadership and mentorship.
What attributes or personal characteristics do you believe are integral to your role?
I’d say it’s a 3x3 for me. Three attributes: cultural dexterity, emotional intelligence, and learning agility. Three personal characteristics: service before self, excellence in all, and integrity.
What advice would you give to the next generation of professionals aspiring to become an HR Leader?
Pinpoint your career North Star and visualize yourself already being there. Set personal goals for learning new skills every 12-18 months via formal education, a growth role change, and/or rotation in alignment with achieving your North Star.
