This week's HR Management Institute Canada’s Speaker Spotlight features Sonia Boyle, VP, HR at GE Canada, who will be one of the HR Leaders on a panel discussing “Leveraging Inclusion & Diversity to Drive Business Success”.
We had the chance to catch up with Sonia this week to ask her a few questions about her role, her career and her advice for aspiring HR Leaders. This is what she shared with us:
What is the biggest obstacle you’ve faced along your career path?
Being patient for the “right” next opportunity. I think we often think we have to move upwards, but sometimes a lateral or transitional move is equally as rewarding and can lead to greater benefits and learning.
What attributes or personal characteristics do you believe are integral to your role?
The ability to connect with people, across all levels in the organization, integrity and authenticity.
What advice would you give to the next generation of professionals aspiring to become an HR Leader?
Don’t be afraid to take risks, change is good! Getting out of our comfort zone can stretch us. Be open to opportunities, be a leader, regardless of your role.
