Dr. Glenn Mitchell

Dr. Glenn Mitchell became Chief Medical Officer after joining Mercy Health five years ago as Vice-President for Clinical Safety. He oversees a full spectrum of provider-related programs such as EHR implementation, evidence based medicine use, leader development, and centralized credentialing and peer review. He created the Centers for Medical Informatics and for Quality and Safety at Mercy. For thirty years he has been actively involved, at the local and national level, in the development of emergency and preventive medicine, clinical and administrative practice, provider and staff education, and disaster medicine. Dr. Mitchell is a graduate of Brown University and Brown University Medical School in Providence, Rhode Island. He is board certified in both Emergency Medicine and Aerospace Medicine. He is also a Certified Physician Executive.

Dr. Mitchell had an Army career, retiring as Commander of William Beaumont Army Medical Center at FT Bliss, TX in 2005. Prior to joining Mercy, he spent two years as Chief of Emergency Medicine and Director of Ambulatory Care, practicing emergency medicine for the Indian Health Service on the Navajo Nation at Fort Defiance, AZ.

Dr. Mitchell holds clinical academic appointments including Adjunct Associate Professor at both St Louis University School of Public Health and University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. He is Past President of the Aerospace Medical Association, and former Vice Chair of the American Board of Preventive Medicine. He has published over 40 papers and book chapters.
