Vinay Ramanathan Global Head of Environment, Health, Safety, Sustainability and Remediation Nokia
Vinay Ramanathan is part of Nokia’s real estate (re) function responsible for its environment, health, safety, sustainability and environment remediation programs globally.
Since joining Nokia, Vinay has expanded Nokia’s environmental focus from energy efficiency to implementing a holistic sustainability framework aimed at more comprehensive results from lower carbon emissions to increased energy efficiency and lower life cycle costs, a portfolio of capital investments aimed at greening the real estate portfolio to registration and certification of LEED certified projects. Under his leadership, the real estate organization supported the company secure the ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system and OSHAS 18001 certificate for its Occupational, Health & Safety system for over 600 Nokia sites globally. In order to accomplish this Vinay worked closely with key suppliers and partners to put in place key building blocks of the programs such as sub-contractor management programs, an incident and accident reporting culture, Nokia life safety rules and an employee targeted environmental awareness program
In 2016 he was made responsible for the company’s environmental remediation program overseeing the evaluation, cleanup and risk management of over 125 active environmentally contaminated sites globally.
His responsibilities include strategy and goal setting, execution, performance management and official reporting of facility related carbon emissions in the company’s annual Corporate Responsibility (CR) reports. His key achievements include assisting Nokia achieve its Climate Savers commitments of 50% renewable energy in 2010 and 6% energy reduction from facilities in 2012. Since then Nokia has reduced its carbon emissions by 30% and recycles 85% of its non-hazardous waste and has saved the company millions of euros.
Prior to joining Nokia, Vinay was the Corporate Responsibility director for the combined Deloitte & Touche US firms, where he worked closely with the heads of human resources, procurement, real estate, information technology, ethics and compliance, as well as the firms various business lines to develop and implement a cohesive corporate social responsibility strategy across the US firms.
